Why talking helps . . .

“We all know the wisdom of talking. In trouble, we turn to another person. Being listened to inevitably generates new perspective, and the help we get lies not only in what is said, but also in the human connection of talking that promotes unconscious thinking. Talking to an empathic other is curative.” Christopher Bollas

Our work together offers you the opportunity to talk about things you may not have felt comfortable talking about with someone else. In this work, we explore experiences you may have found painful, as well as patterns of thoughts and feelings that have had a negative impact on you and your relationships. Together, we can create the goals that fit your needs. What’s possible in therapy is finding new ways to relate with yourself and others that lead to a greater sense of confidence and well being in the world. This possibility for change takes place in the context of a warm, non-judgmental and genuine relationship.

“…the secrets of being okay lie not in escaping trouble but in living through trouble with others, supported in mutual networks of care and understanding.” Pat De Young
